Bette & Wallet
(qu’on prononce Bette et Oua-lette) sortent leur premier album, intitulé
Voici… Bette & Wallet.
Bette & Wallet (pronounced Bet and Wall-ette) release their first cd, Voici…Bette
& Wallet!
In the spirit of 60s folk-revival troubadours, Mary Beth Carty (Nova Scotia)
and Gabriel F. Ouellette (Québec), sing of their day in a new old-fashioned
way. The twelve vibrant songs on their début cd mix Québecois,
Klezmer, Cajun, Nova Scotian, and blues sounds, without forgetting their country
and psychedelic rock backgrounds. Elderly neighbors are their inspiration –
and squeegee kids, and the grocery store. Old melodies find new words and lost
songs new life, compositions build on traditions to create a culturally ecological
musical patchwork. Bette & Wallet are artists dedicated to pushing the boundries
of their cultural heritage.
Recorded in their home studio in Québec City, the duo produced the album
and asked Yves Drolet (sound engineer who worked with Les Charbonniers de l’Enfer,
Gilles Vigneault, Chauffeurs à Pieds) to mix and master it. Mary Beth
created the album art.
