formidables musiciens possédant un bagage varié. Le résultat
est un CD bien mûri dont les arrangements originaux empruntent autant
aux musiques traditionnelles qu'aux courants populaires actuels. Danseurs
et chanteurs, nos amis musiciens présentent des chansons touchantes
tel "La Musette et le hautbois", un très beau "rossignol
sauvage" et un classique des chansons à répondre "Les
Trois rubans". Il faut aussi écouter "la Traverse du Saguenay
et Le Grand triomphe" ou "La Valse clog" pour savourer toute
la richesse rythmique de nos joyeux lurons. Déjà reconnu en
Amérique du Nord pour leurs performances dynamiques, le trio de "Matapat"
est en route pour la gloire.
Here is something very new for the end of 1998! Original and uplifting, Matapat
brings together a trio composed of three incredible musicians with quite different
backgrounds. The result is a very mature CD with original arrangements, borrowing
from both traditional and popular influences. Singers as well as dancers, these
musicians present touching songs such as La Musette et le hautbois, a very beautiful
version of the Rossignol sauvage and a classic response song Les trois rubans.
La Traverse du Saguenay and le Grand triomphe or la Valse clog must be heard
in order to get a real taste of rhythmic richness of this happy trio. Already
reknown in North America for their dynamic performances, the trio Matapat is
now on its way to glory.

Une des belles productions de l'année vient d'arriver chez
nous! Simon, Benoît et Gaston sont de retour avec des airs et des chansons
où se mélangent si bien fraîcheur, rythme, douceur, musicalité
et surprises. 
Nos
comparses ont le don de nous présenter des musiques soulevantes et un
répertoire recherché: des reels comme La pêche au capelan
de Louis Boudreault fondue avec le Reel St-Sauveur, des chansons tel La fille
du geopier, des turluttes où coulent l'art traditionnel et l'improvisation,
bref un album aux couleurs de la pochette. Ce qui caractérise aussi cette
production, c'est le constant balancement entre les sonoritées traditionnelles
du violon, de la mandoline, des pieds, de l'accordéon et les nouvelles
teintes créées entre autre par la basse énergique de Simon
et les arrangement résolument modernes. Le tout demeure intimiste et
chaleureux dénotant la maturité d'un trio rimant avec brio!
One of this year's beautiful productions has just arrived at Thirty
Below! Simon, Benoît and Gaston are back again with tunes and songs filled
with newness, lively rhythm, sweetness, musicality and many surprises. This
group has the knack of compiling uplifting music and an unusual repertoire consisting
of reels like La pêche au capelan from Louis Boudreault blended
with the Reel St-Sauveur, songs like La fille du geopier, and
turluttes (mouth music) sung traditionally and with improvisation. In short,
the cover truly reflects the colours of its musical contents. Also charactersitic
of this production is the constant balance of the traditional sounds of the
fiddle, mandolin, feet, accordion, the new timbres created by Simon's energetic
bass playing and the completely modern arrangements. The recording remains intimate
and warm clearly showing the maturity of this trio ringing with brio!
