Gilles Cantin a
été membre fondateur et l'âme du groupe la Bottine souriante.
Chanteur et guitariste sur les deux premiers albums du célèbre
groupe, c'est à lui que l'on doit les interprétations de La Grand'
côte, Pinci-pincette, L'Ivrogne, Trinque l'amourette, Mon Père
mariez-moi donc, et plusieurs autres. Son influence a marqué la manière
et le rythme des chanteurs de toute une génération. Son frère
Jean lui, a marqué le groupe Guignolée et il est aussi reconnu
comme l'un des plus extraordinaires guitaristes et chanteur du Québec.
Ils sont natifs du village de St-Liguori, dans le 5e rang et ils ont grandi
dans une famille extraordinaire de musiciens et de chanteurs. Parents, frères
et soeurs ont tous baigné dans les chansons traditionelles depuis leur
enfance. Ils se sont réunis pour célébrer cet amour de
la chanson et nous offrir un disque qui nous amène directement dans la
cuisine de leur maison familiale, là où ont vécu ces chansons
dans une atmosphère de fête. Jean (voix, pieds, guitare), Gilles,
(voix, pieds, guitare), Raymond (voix, harmonica, violon), Michel (guitare,
voix), Lucien et Nathalie (voix) viennent tour à tour interpréter
les classiques de la famille. Mme Jetté-Cantin elle-même nous offre
trois chansons qui illustrent bien la fougue et l'immense talent de cette grande
dame de la chanson traditionnelle québécoise. Son interprétation
de «Mon vieux est jaloux» de Mme Bolduc est exceptionnelle. Voici
votre chance de découvrir le son d'une famille célèbre,
miroir d'une région synonyme de chansons à répondre.
Gilles Cantin was one of the founding members and spirit behind the group La
Bottine souriante. Singer and guitarist on the first two albums of this now
well-known group, we owe the interpretations of La Grand' côte,
Pinci-pincette, L'Ivrogne, Trinque l'amourette, Mon
Père mariez-moi donc, as well as many others to him. His singing
style and rhythmic sense has influenced a whole generation of Québec
singers. His brother Jean has had a great influence on the group La Guignolée
and is also known as one of the most extraordinary guitar players and singers
in Québec today. The Cantin brothers were born in the village of St-Liguori,
(5th "rang") and they grew up in an excepttional family of singers
and musicians. The whole family has been completely immersed in traditional
music and song their entire lives. For this CD, they got together to celebrate
and share their love of traditional song and recorded it directly from their
family kitchen, where they grew up in this lively musical atmosphere. Jean (voice,
feet, guitar), Gilles, (voice, feet, guitar), Raymond (voice, harmonica, fiddle),
Michel (guitar, voice), Lucien and Nathalie (voice) each take a turn singing
classic songs from the family repertoire. Madam Jetté-Cantin herself
offers three songs clearly demonstrating her tremondous talent as one of the
greatest traditional female singers in Québec. Her interpretation of
Mon vieux est jaloux from Mme Bolduc is exceptional. Here is your chance
to discover the sound of a famous family from an area synonymous to the typical
"chansons à repondre" of Québec.

On est bien
heureux de retrouver le son de la famille Cantin dans une nouvelle production
tout à fait dans la lignée de leur premier disque. Gilles n'est
plus mais le charisme musical qui anime cette famille typique de Lanaudière
est bien vivant. Avec la complicité de leur voisin de village Rémi
Laporte et de Martin Brisson, ils ont produits un disque chaleureux avec comme
toujours, un très beau répertoire de chansons traditionnelles.
À l'encontre de nombreux groupes folk modernes, la famille Cantin présente
ce qu'elle a de plus riche dans la tradition des veillées dans leur cuisine.
C'est Jean qui donne le ton en ouvrant le disque avec «La chasse aux gibiers»!
Qui pourrait résister à une telle chanson d'ouverture? «
Pourquoi pas » n'est pas seulement un disque familial mais un disque qu'on
aimera écouter dans toutes nos fêtes!
It is truly a pleasure to hear from La famille Cantin family again with their
unique family sound on this new recording in the same vain as their first CD.
Although Gilles is no longer with us, the musical charisma that has always characterized
this family of singers from the Lanaudière region is very alive. Joined
by their neighbour Rémi Laporte and Martin Brisson, they produced an
intimate recording using, as always, beautiful repertoire from their vast knowledge
of traditional songs. Unlike many modern folk groups, la famille Cantin presents
the treasures from the house party tradition that has taken place in their kitchens
for so long. Jean sets the tone by opening the recording with the irresistible
song La chasse aux gibiers! "Pourquoi pas" (Why not) is not just a
family CD but a recording to be listenend to for any occcasion!

« Tout
m'y va » de La Famille Cantin, c'est une incursion dans Lanaudière
en chansons et une visite privilégiée du village de St-Liguori.
En écoutant ce disque, je me suis revu dans la cuisine des Cantin où
parents et amis étaient venus partager leurs chansons, leurs gigues et
leur musique. Les Cantin nous présentent leurs chansons à leur
manière bien caractéristique, sans artifice, l'essentiel! Mais
quel qualité! Des vrais chanteurs traditionnels secondés par des
guitares efficaces et des violons qui swing, du répertoire régional
recherché et des interpérations colorées comme seul les
Cantin en connaissent la recette: voilà la Famille Cantin dans «
Tout m'y va ». Martin Brisson et Rémi Laporte, apportent ce qu'il
faut pour compléter ce disque drôlement bien produit avec une grande
qualité sonore. Je m'en voudrais de ne pas souligner la qualité
exceptionnels des interprétions de Rémi Laporte au violon qui
sont des délices.

in song, and a privileged visit to the village of St-Liguori. Listening to this
recording brought me back to the wonderful times in the Cantin's kitchen where
family and friends came to share their songs, dances and music. The Cantins
present their songs in their own characteristic way, in a truly traditional
style. You will hear authentic traditional singers backed up by guitars and
highly rhythmic fiddles, original regional repertoire and colourful interpretations
as only the Cantins know how to do! This is the Famille Cantin in "Tout
m'y va ". Martin Brisson and Rémi Laporte contribute greatly to
this high-quality recording. It would be unforgivable not to mention the incredible
fiddle playing by Rémi Laporte on this CD. What a delight!
