Le Vent du
Nord est certainement l'un des nouveaux groupes dominants de la musique traditionnelle
québécoise. Alimenté par le productif duo Boulerice-Demers
et secondé par Simon Beaudry, ils accueillent Réjean Brunet (oui,
le Réjean des Frères Brunet) pour former ce nouveau quatuor dynamique.
Dès la première écoute, on sent cette chimie et ce plaisir
de partager une même musique tout à fait dans la lignée
des leurs deux premiers disques. La qualité des chansons et des interprétations,
les arrangements attentifs et les airs bien choisis sont supportés par
une production impeccable. Ne cherchez pas ici les déjà-vu, les
clichés ou les chemins souvent fréquentés, tout est original
et recherché. On ne peut passer sous silence le travail de graphisme
de Frédérick Fontaine qui nous offre une pochette remarquable.
Tout dans ce disque semble avoir été fait avec attention et amour,
comme un repas longuement préparé, comme un vin bien mûri.

The Vent du Nord is certainly one of the new prominent groups on the Québec
traditional music scene. Starting with the productive duo Boulerice-Demers and
seconded by Simon Beaudry, they are joined by Réjean Brunet (yes, Réjean
from the Frères Brunet) to create this new dynamic foursome. From the
first listening, we get a sense of the musical complicity and the pleasure they
have sharing their similar music traditions that follows in the footsteps of
the first two recordings. The quality and interpretations of the songs, the
careful arrangements and well-chosen tunes complete this impeccable production.
Don’t look for any déjà-vus, clichés or familiar
material . . . everything is original and unique. The graphic art work of Frédérick
Fontaine contributes to the remarkably well-done cover. Everything about this
CD seems to have been done with love and care, like a well-prepared meal or
a great old bottle of wine. Olivier, Nicolas, Simon and Réjean . . .

Vent du Nord arrive bien chez Trente Sous Zéro! Nicolas, Olivier et Benoit
se sont cette fois joint à Simon Beaudry qui amène bien la saveur
de la région de Lanaudière à ce groupe qui se pointe comme
la nouvelle coqueluche de la musique traditionnlle québécoise.
Les «Amants du St-Laurent», texte et musique de Nicolas, donne le
ton à ce disque où les compositions côtoient avec harmonies
les airs anciens. J’ai adoré... tout et particulièrement
la «Suite de Virginie», «Cré mardi» suivi de
«La Turlutte du rang des Sloans»! Soulevant! Sous une production
soignée, un très beau livret, un enregistrement signé André
Marchand, Le Vent du Nord, faites-vous un beau cadeau!
The “north wind” hits “thirty below” with a bang! The
band’s new make up consists of Nicolas, Olivier, Benoît and Simon
Beaudry, who brings a taste of the Lanaudière region. Gaining in popularity,
this group is becoming one of the favourites on the Québec traditional
music scene. Les Amants du Saint-Laurent (words and music by Nicolas) sets the
tone of the recording in which original compositions mingle with harmonies of
older tunes. This is a truly lovely CD, and I particularly enjoyed the Suite
de Virginie, Cré mardi followed by the Turlutte du rang des Sloans! Very
lively, high quality production, beautiful booklet, recorded by André
Marchand...Treat yourself to Le Vent du Nord!

et de Bernard Simard, le guitariste-chanteur qui a collaboré avec de
nombreux groupes incluant les célèbres Bottine souriante et Manigances.
Avec un pareil quatuor, nul surprise ici de trouver un disque merveilleux, hors
catégorie, dont l'instrumentation, le répertoire et l'interprétation
sont remarquables. Leurs possibilités musicales sont telles que toutes
les avenues leur sont ouvertes, ce qu'ils utilisent d'ailleurs avec brio. Si
on ne peut leur coller une étiquette, on peut certainement leur tirer
notre chapeau: Le vent du Nord... un disque attentif, bien mûri où
se côtoient les airs traditionnels et les compositions originales dans
une production impeccable.
Le vent du Nord (or the north wind) is the happy reunion of several very experienced
musicians including the duo Boulerice-Demers (who already produced a very beautiful
CD), Benoît Bourque (Matapat TB-150-CD, TB-197-CD) and Bernard Simard,
the singer-guitar player who has collaborated with numerous well-known groups
such as La Bottine souriante and Manigances. With a quartet like this, it is
no surprise that they have produced a marvelous recording whose instrumentation,
repertoire and interpretation are truly remarkable. Their musical avenues are
endless making anything possible, and the maximum of their creative abilities
are wonderfully demonstrated. What a wonderful musical experience the north
wind has blown in! Le vent du Nord... a mature group who brings us this refined
CD, blending original compositions and tunes on this impeccable recording.
