Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine
sont un chapelet d'îles québécoises situées dans
le golfe du St-Laurent entre l'Île-du- Prince-Édourard et le Cap-Breton.
Les Madelinots, en majorité de souche acadienne, sont des gens colorés,
bons vivants et riches de milles et une traditions. Les Îles sont aussi
un lieu de prédilection des chanteurs, danseurs, conteurs et violoneux
et ils ont une signature bien particulière. Avec Vent'arrière,
Patrice, Bertrand et Carole ont puisé directement dans la tradition locale
pour nous faire sentir la brise du large. Ces pêcheurs de métiers,
musiciens et chanteurs de talent propagent la folklore des îles depuis
de nombreuses années sur les scènes acadiennes et québécoises
et ils avaient été renversants lors de leur récente présence
au festival Mémoire et Racines. C'est votre opportunité de découvir
une autre facette de la musique québécoise, un chaînon manquant
dans cette vaste diversité culturelle.
The archipelago of the Îles-de-la-Madeleine (Magdalen Islands) is located
in the Gulf of Saint Lawrence between Prince Edward Island and Cape Breton and
is part of the province of Québec. The Madelinots, the majority of whom
have Acadian roots, are a very lively, fun loving group of people and have a
variety of local tradicitons. The Magdalen Islands are known for its very rich
song, dance, story telling, and fiddle traditions, with a very specific, unique
local style. On the recording Vent'arrière, Patrice, Bertrand
and Carole, clearly demonstrate the colourful Magdalen Island style as their
repertoire is taken direclty from the local traditions. Fishermen by trade,
these talented musicians and singers have been performing the Island's folklore
for many years throughout Québec and in many Acadian areas of the Maritimes.
They really knocked our socks off when they performed at the festival Mémoire
et Racines in recent years. This is your chance to discover another aspect of
Québécois music, one of the missing links in this vast, diverse
culture.
