Dorothée
Hogan est d'origine américiane et québécoise d'adoption.
Depuis 1962, elle a oeuvré au Canada pour et autour de la musique traditionnelle.
Pianiste, guitariste et chanteuse, accompagnatrice du célèbre
accordéoniste Philippe Bruneau de 1979 à 1989, elle a jouée
avec de nombreux musiciens, groupes et troupes de danse. Elle nous livre ici
un recueil et un enregistrement qui constitue un grand survol de la musique
au Québec. Chansons, airs de danses variés, gigue, valses, constituent
l'évantail de son répertoire. Le livre est largement documenté,
illustré de photographies inédites et les partitions sont particulièrement
soignées. On retrouve sur le disque 34 pièces du livre interprétés
par des musiciens reconnus dont Sabin Jacques à l'accordéon, Richard
Forest au violon, Gabriel Labbé à l'harmonica et Michel Donato
à la basse. C'est toujours avec plaisir que nous recevons un disque-livre
qui constitue ensemble un outil essentiel dans la transmission de ce patrimoine.
Dorothée Hogan is orignally from the States and has become a Quebecker
by adoption. Since 1962, she has been in Canada and immersed in traditional
music. Her many talents include playing piano, guitar playing and singing, and
she became widely known for playing back up for the well- known accordion player
Philippe Bruneau from 1979 to 1989. She has played with numerous musicians,
groups and dance troupes. In La Grande ronde, she created a collection
and recording consisting of a large overview of music in Québec. The
repertoire includes songs, varied dance tunes, gigues and waltzes. The book
is extremely well documented, illustrated with unpublished photographs, and
the transcriptions were done with great care.The CD contains 34 tunes from the
accompanying book, which are played by reputable musicians including Sabin Jacques
(accordion), Richard Forest (fiddle), Gabriel Labbé (harmonica) and Michel
Donato (bass). We are very excited to add this CD-book to our collection, which
serves as an invaluable tool for passing on our heritage.
