Forest est l'un des violoneux québécois dont la réputation
dépasse largement les frontières du Québec. Il est de retour
avec le groupe Réveillons avec Jean-François, David Berthiaume
et Marc Maziade. J'ai particulièrement apprécié les chansons
souvent inédites qui sont traitées avec goût et interprétées
avec beaucoup de fougue. La guitare de Marc est aussi très solide, toujours
bien ryhmée.On retrouve même dans la pochette l'explication d'une
danse composée par Jean-François, un caller et de gigueur de très
grand talent. On retrouve aussi ces mots de Paul Marchand sur la pochette qui
décrivent bien sa pensée: «des musiciens et chanteurs de
grand talent, un beau choix de répertoire, des arrangements nouveaux
et efficaces; ce fut pour moi une belle découverte et surtout un privilège
de vous entendre les gars!
Richard Forest is one of those Québec fiddlers whose reputation goes
way beyond Québec’s borders. This collection marks his return to
the group Réveillons with Jean-François, David Berthiaume and
Marc Maziade. I especially appreciated the choice of songs that included more
unusual and less frequently heard tunes, tastefully handled and interpreted
with lots of energy. Marc’s guitar playing is very solid and rhythmic.
You’ll even find an explanation in the cd insert about a dance by Jean-François,
a talented caller and fiddle-step dancer. You’ll also find these words
from Paul Marchand on the jacket, which describe clearly what he thinks: “musicians
and singers of tremendous talent, a great repertoire, new arrangements that
really work—for me, it was a wonderful discovery and especially a privilege
to hear these guys!”
